  Part 28

I woke up with a jolt to the sound of a voice hovering over me asking “How do you take your coffee?”  Instinctively my arm tightened around Lorelei even before I opened my eyes.  My sleep addled brain scrambled to connect the dots, as I tried to figure out where and from whom the unfamiliar early morning voice belonged to.  Not being much of a morning person, skill testing questions like “how do you want your coffee?” from unknown sources was mildly freaking me out. Forcing my eyes open and taking in my surroundings I realized it was Lorelei’s mother.  “Good morning” she chirped at me, her own mug of coffee steaming in her hands.  “Good morning” I returned somewhat groggily but politely. Lorelei however burrowed deeper into me mumbling, “Five more minutes Mom I don’t want to go to school today.”

This woman was unbelievable it wasn’t even cocks’ crow on a Sunday morning, and she was up, showered, dressed and ready to get on with her day and so it seemed clinging to the belief that so should everyone else around her.  As for myself I was stiffer than a Billy goat from sleeping in an upright position all night.  I probably looked a bit like a goat as well with the early morning stubble on my face, but I wasn’t complaining because my best girl was wrapped in my arms and that outweighed everything else to me. “Uh coffee, bit of milk and one sugar or honey, whatever you’ve got please.”  “I’ll be back in a flash.” And she immediately scurried off on her mission. Lorelei slumbered on.  Softly I kissed her cheek.  She opened her eyes and smiled at me, looking quite alert.  “Were you playing possum?” I asked and grinned at her.  “Yes. Better you than me to deal with my early morning happy as a lark, let’s chat now, Mom.” She giggled at me.  “Besides this way you’re the one that’s in the line of fire for dealing with the why are the two of us not in our own beds question.”

“You’re a little stinker you know that?” I teased her but couldn’t help but think I’d do the same thing to her if the shoe were on the other foot.  “Guilty as charged. I throw myself on the mercy of the court.” She quipped back looking like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, the quintessential picture of total innocence.  I leaned in and kissed those lips, as they were just too hard for me to resist. “Some judge I would have made, fraternizing with the accused like that.” I thought. “Aren’t you two cute?” And a cup of coffee was thrust at me.  “Good morning dear, did you two sleep well out here?  I can’t imagine either of you being the least bit comfortable like that.” She continued, answering her own question.  Thankfully her father arrived on the scene and her mother scuttled away to get him a cup of coffee as well.  We greeted him and I took a couple fortifying sips of coffee to clear my head further.  Her mother returned with two more mugs one for her husband and one for her daughter.  The four of us sat in the lounge sipping coffee and chatting.  Fortunately neither of her parents mentioned the fact we were on the sofa together, I guess being dressed and in an upright position was good enough for them to rationalize that no hanky panky hand occurred in their home.  That coupled with the fact they had more than likely already checked to ensure our beds and pillows were appropriately messed up.

When we finished our first cups of coffee, Mrs. Gallagher shooed the two of us off to have showers and get dressed while she whipped up some breakfast for the four of us, before we headed off to church together.  “Church” Lorelei and I both echoed in strangled voices, but we didn’t sound nearly as traumatized over this news as her Dad was.  “It’s not your birthday, Easter, Mother’s Day, or Christmas either.” He said in a befuddled manner, counting off the special occasions he felt obligated to accompany his wife there.   He was genuinely perplexed over the news flash he’d just received. “I’m sorry but I didn’t bring any dress pants or a dress shirt with me.” I added in the hopes this would dissuade her.  “Nonsense dear the early service is always casual. You’ll be fine in your jeans and polo shirt.”  “Goody for my team.”  I thought helplessly.  My biggest consolation was that Lor’s Dad looked as disheartened over the matter as I felt.

After a shower, shave and some fresh clothes at least I felt more human. When I made my appearance in the kitchen I was ushered to my seat and served a mammoth breakfast compliments of the Gallagher ladies.  I got a quick buss on the cheek from Lor as she slid into her seat beside mine.  Warm cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, bacon, hash brown potatoes and fresh fruit, along with juice and another steaming cup of coffee, a breakfast fit for a king.  I ate heartily, not realizing how much of an appetite I’d built up after my late night maneuvers in the woods.  Mrs. Gallagher of course was dead chuffed about me devouring the meal with such gusto.  I’m not so sure though she would have felt quite so warmly towards me if she knew her daughter and I had snuck out to make love last night.  At least we hadn’t done it in the house, so in the grander scheme of things it was all good.

When breakfast was over and we’d all tidied up it was time to stop putting off the inevitable.  I offered to drive, which was met with approval.  Mr. Gallagher noticed how I opened the door for his daughter and he seemed pleased that I was treating her like such a gentleman. It was a short drive to the church and I easily followed the directions I was given. Mrs. Gallagher bustled all of us into the church like a proud mother hen with her brood. I looped along behind Lorelei down the aisle to the Gallagher’s family pew.  I felt like a duck out of water but hey sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do in life.  Her mother led the way, followed by her Dad, then Lor, and I brought up the rear and sidled in beside her.  I looked around me as I waited for the service to begin and thought it was rather a quaint looking little church.  There was a lot of nice wood work and carvings and the stained glass windows were quite stunning.  People were very cordial, smiling, nodding and exchanging pleasantries with us.

Lorelei leaned into me and whispered.  “The gentleman over there is Mr. Bellamy I beaned him in the head when I was six, when I tossed a hymnal over the edge of the balcony.  Mom never let me sit upstairs again.” She grinned at the memory.  “There’s Mrs. Mammon over there and she’s probably never forgiven me to this day for the times I’d hop over the pews to get to my seat.  She would rebuke me and tell me it was most undignified for a young lady to behave so wretchedly.”  I was trying so hard not to laugh out loud as she kept regaling me with tales of all the naughty things she’d done as a youngster while attending church. People must have thought I had some sort of nervous tick or something the way I would shake and twitch as I tried not to let out a rollicking belly laugh.  Next to her behaviour in church as a kid my mother would have considered me to be a saint.  Lorelei on the other hand she would have considered to have been a complete and utter little holy terror.  I considered her to be an angel although one with a slightly tarnished halo at times, and that was just fine in my books.

Somehow I survived the service without bursting into flames and having to be doused with holy water.  By some miracle of fate the adult Lorelei managed to get through the service without any type of shenanigans.  Mind you I kind of would have liked to have seen her in action as a kid, and I grinned at the thought of poor old Mr. Bellamy getting winged in the head with the book from above. We slipped out ahead of her parents who had remained behind to talk to some other people they knew. In the bright morning sunshine Lorelei grinned at me. “I’ll bet you now know there are 25 pipes on the organ, 16 pew down the centre of the church, and 19 more on both the right and left hand sides, as well as there are 468 ceiling tiles.”  I couldn’t help it I started laughing.  “Yeah I do know that, but how’d you know I’d know that after one visit?”  “Elementary my dear Watson, neither of us truly wanted to be there, so to avoid falling asleep and thus avoid snoring or worse yet drooling in public, we both zoned out and counted to keep awake.  I did it all the time as a kid when I got bored.”  I slipped my arm around her and hugged her to me.  “You’re a woman after my own heart.” I teased her and gave her a little squeeze.

Her parents joined us and we were on our way back to the house, which meant our visit was nearing its end, as we wanted to get back in time to make my weekly game.  It had been a nice visit for the most part but I knew we were both anxious to get back to our own home. When we arrived back at the Gallagher’s place Barclay greeted us warmly, meowing and carrying on like he’d been deserted by the bunch of us for days, rather than the actual couple of hours that he had been left to his own devices.  He totally sucked his Grand meow in with his mournful complaints and was whisked into the kitchen for a treat.  Lorelei’s Dad stretched out in his lazy boy and flicked on the telly to see what games were on.  Lor and I took advantage of the lull with her parents to finish packing our things and tidying up the rooms we’d used, if only briefly.  Once we were done with that I stowed the bag in the car.

Not surprisingly her Mother tried to convince us to stay and have lunch but Lorelei patiently explained for the umpteenth time that we really did have other commitments and that yes we’d be back.  We may have declined lunch but we still ended up with a couple of boxes of food items to take back with us.  Mrs. Gallagher referred to it as a little care package for us, I referred to it as a weeks’ worth of groceries.  I had a feeling portion control was an issue for her and always would be.  Still we thanked her profusely as we added that to the luggage in the trunk.  Next came the task of wrangling Barclay into his kitty carrier and while he may have co-operated with us for the trip down here he was not so crazy leaving the comforts of his Grandparents place.  We ended up corralling him in the guest room and eventually coaxing him out from under the bed with a handful of kitty treats, compliments of his Grandmeow.

“At least he didn’t escape into the back garden this time.  He took a flying leap over the railing and plunked into the middle of the fish pond the last time he was here.”  Her dad said reminiscing.  “He was quite the sorry sight all wet and bedraggled.  Wasn’t any too keen on the ensuing bath he got either if I remember correctly.” And he chuckled over the memory. Once Barclay had been procured and secured, hugs and handshakes were exchanged.  I thanked the Gallagher’s for their kind hospitality, and was warmly assured I was most welcome as often as I liked by both of them.  That gave me a pretty good feeling inside as let’s face it Mr. Gallagher hadn’t been all that keen on me to begin with.  We were finally in the car and on our way with the Gallagher’s waving good bye and fading from view in my rear view mirror.

“How are you doing after all that?” Lorelei asked me as she placed her hand on my leg and gave me a little pat before resting her hand there.  “I think it went pretty well.  Your old man and I got off to a bit a rocky start but we turned things around fairly quickly.  Your mom is a nice lady but a bit of a control freak if you ask me” I said and nearly bit my tongue thinking it may not have been my finest hour criticizing her mom like that. Lorelei merely laughed though.  “Don’t I know it, and you are far too kind saying she’s only a bit of one.  You should have tried growing up with her.  Don’t get me wrong she’s got a lot of great qualities as well but she’s someone that is definitely used to getting her own way.  I think Daddy is a saint for putting up with her at times.  You know one of my greatest fears in life is that one day I’ll open my mouth and my mother’s voice will come out of it.”

“I think we all have fears of that to one degree or another.” I agreed with her.  “I just always hope that when that happens it will be the best parts of them that come out, but at the end of the day though I just want to be the best me that I can.” I added thoughtfully. “You are the best Liam never ever doubt that for a single moment. It’s part of why I love you so much, and also why I genuinely like you as a person.” She said as she softly stroked my leg. To some people it may have sounded weird or anticlimactic to tell someone you loved so dearly that you ‘liked’ them but I totally got where she was coming from and it made me realize just how much she did care for me and how in synch we were with each other.  Years ago, I had realized that you could love someone but still not like them much for the things they did or said, so the fact that she not only loved me but liked me as well made me feel pretty secure in the knowledge that we were well suited to each other.

It was also a huge relief to me to know she could take a statement about such a close family member as her mother and not be overly defensive or sensitive about it.  To me I had made a simple unvarnished statement of fact about her mom, and she had taken it as such.  Lorelei was not the sort of woman that viewed life with rose coloured glasses and always thought that things were peachy keen.  She saw things for what they were, and for better or worse made the best of the situation. Traffic was flowing well and we were making good time on the trip home so we decided to make a quick pit stop and grab a couple cold drinks.  I was going to run in and grab them as we didn’t to leave Barclay unattended in the car.  I asked if she wanted a snack of some sort as well but she declined, as she was still full from that massive breakfast we’d packed away earlier. We pulled off to the rest stop and I leapt out of the car.  “We have limited time to refuel sports fans so I’ll be leaving things in the capable hands of my pit crew.”  I loved doing silly things like that to make her smile and it was better still when she rewarded me with one of her laughs as well.  Just for the record I got the laughs out of her as well.

Bottles of cold water in hand and a snack for me, and we were off and running once more.  I figured if all things went well we’d be back at the house in another 45 minutes, give or take a few either way.  We’d have plenty of time to unload the car, get our little care package put away, square Barclay away with kibble and fresh water and I’d still have time to change and grab my gear to head out to the game. Everything went according to plan and we were casually ambling over to the baseball diamond hand in hand before we knew it.  Lor gave me a kiss for good luck before I joined the team and she veered off for the bleachers.  I saw Kaylene waving her over madly when she caught sight of her, and indicating she’d saved her a seat.  Lorelei flashed her two thumbs up as she made her way over.

Lorelei somehow managed to look great both coming and going I thought as I watched the natural sway of her hips as she walked away from me.  She moved like the waves in the ocean, and I found it incredibly sexy.  “You can go into libido over drive a bit later right now you’ve got to focus on the game old man.” I chided myself.  It wasn’t easy to put those thoughts on the back burner but for the sake of the team I had to. I had a new understanding of taking one for the team as a result. We were slated to play one of the top teams in the league and I can’t say I enjoyed playing these guys as they were as cocky as a bunch of bantam roosters.  It would give me a great deal of satisfaction if we could take these turkeys down a peg or two and give them a lesson in humility.
Everyone was in top form today and seemed to be of the same opinion as I was about the other team.  We ended up trouncing them a very respectable 11 to 5, which must have left them with a bitter taste in their mouths judging from the amount of cursing they did and their refusal to line up and shake hands after the game.  My team of course was totally psyched by yet another victory, and the fact we were moving up in the standings.  We did a cheer for the other team of course as we didn’t want to be brought down to their level and lack of sportsmanship. After we did a couple of the other team did come over and grudgingly offered a couple of us congratulations.  Hey at least it was a step in the right direction I figured.

I watched Lorelei as she nimbly scampered down the bleachers and ran across the field to me and my waiting arms.  I picked her up and swung her around and around, both of us exuberant and laughing over my latest victory on the field. “So when’s the big day mate?” came the booming voice of my friend Jason, as he slapped me on the shoulder.  “Huh?” I responded not sure what he was talking about.  “You know, when are you two planning on making it official?  You can’t keep it a secret from your best mates Liam.  Especially once my missus gets wind of it.  She pounced on Lorelei the second she saw that ring on her finger.  Had do get all the details out of her.” He laughed. “Well we haven’t officially set the date yet and I am planning on a more proper proposal before we do but it will happen sooner rather than later I can assure you of that.”  I grinned massively as I said it, already thinking about joining the ranks of my married buddies.

“Good on ya, mate she’s a great little Sheila.” He replied slapping me on the shoulder once again in congratulations.  The news of our unofficial engagement spread rapidly amongst my team mates and their wives, girlfriends and kids.  People were congratulating the two of us left right and centre and I was a bit over whelmed by how happy everyone was for us. “Oh and we’ve heard about your new living arrangements as well so we’ve all decided to pitch in and give you a hand with shifting her things over to yours.  How’s next Saturday morning work for you two?  We’ve got several vans and pickup trucks between us. We’ll supply the muscle, if you two supply the beer and snacks when we finish up.  Sound fair to you two?   “Sounds perfect, thanks guys I don’t know what else to say.” I was truly touched that I had such a great group of friends in my life.  Lorelei echoed my “thanks” to everyone and I could tell she was overwhelmed and truly grateful to them for everything they were offering to do for us and how readily they were welcoming her into the fold. “Now, let’s get moving we’ve got a lot to celebrate today, let’s go grab something to eat and a couple of drinks.”  Jason said rubbing his hands together gleefully.  We picked a spot to meet up at and then packed up and headed off.  It was a cheerful group of revellers that took over the restaurant we choose.

I was awed and overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of Liam’s friends, and I knew after I got a few of my friends on board with the plan as well we’d easily be able to accomplish the move on Saturday. I was already plotting on having a couple of them help me with some of the food preparations as after lugging my furniture and what not down three flights of stairs the least I could do was to give them a proper feeding up.  I’d be in my element planning for it and I knew Liam would happily be my chief taste tester. Liam and I exchanged looks between all the congratulations and well wishes, and he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me into him.  “We are such incredibly lucky people.” He whispered in my ear, and I whole heartedly agreed with him.”  When it was time to settle up and head out the waitress just waved us on.  “Oh your friends took care of it for you, said it was a little gift to get you too started off together.” She informed us. “You guys are the best.” Liam told them as we said our good byes to everyone amongst promises to see us first thing Saturday morning.

We were a pretty happy couple as we headed back to our home.  It was amazing what a relief it was to know we’d be having so much help with the move and that it was being given to us so willingly, by the people that cared about us and supported us.  We were more than lucky we were truly blessed to have such great people in our life. When we arrive home, Barclay made his presence known and had to get his fair share of attention. Lorelei scooped him up and carried him into the living room like the little fur prince he believed himself to be.  She sat on the sofa with him in her lap and he was absorbing all the attention like a little love sponge the more he got the more he absorbed.  I sat down beside her and put my feet up on the coffee table as I stretched out to relax. “You really should remember to take your cleats off in the house you know.”  “Yeah I know.”  “Trust me cleats in the house aren’t a good thing.” And she blushed, a rosy shade of red.”  “I detect a Lorelei Gallagher moment here, now will this be a suitable tale to repeat in front of Barclay or should we wait until we’re alone?” Liam teased me as he waggled his eyebrows at me.  “Oh it’s suitable for all ages, and I’m surprised my brothers didn’t tell you the story to be honest with you.  They love reminding me of that whole fiasco.  Man oh man did I ever get grounded after that one.” I reminisced as I shook my head, and grinned.

“Just exactly what did you do?” Liam questioned me, intrigued at hearing more about my formative years. “Well I’d just had this really great game, and came running into the house to tell Mom all about it.  Now Mom was big on the take your shoes off at the door, and put them in the closet thing but I was excited and totally forgot.  I went running through the house calling for her and ended up in her and dad’s bedroom where she was putting away laundry.  At the time she and dad had a water bed.  Well I was demonstrating this great catch I’d made and leapt up on to the bed, smack dab in the centre of it.  Long story short my metal cleats totally perforated the bed.  It sprang more than a little leak shall we say.” I told him.  “Oh tell me you didn’t seriously do that?” He said looking somewhat horrified that I had done such a thing.  “I wish I could. Oh how I wish I could but we agreed no lies between us.”

“Man you should have seen the mess it made. I can’t remember how many times we had to dump the shop vac trying to get all the water out of the room. My parents were pissed about it to say the least.  I thought I’d never get off of being grounded for that one.” And she laughed over the memory now but at the time I’m sure she viewed it entirely differently.  “To this day I never wear spikes of any kind in the house.  It’s the kind of thing that stays with you.”  “I’ll remember that.” Said Liam as he undid his shoes and slipped them off.  “You know I wish I’d known you when we were younger, you were a complete nut and we could have had heaps of fun together.  The two of us would have been unstoppable.”  “We’re unstoppable together now my darling Liam.” And I grinned at him and gave him a kiss that would surely leave him desiring more. “I think it’s time for me to hit the shower and freshen.” Liam said in that smoulderingly sexy voice of his.  My mission of launching his desire cycle had indeed been set in motion. “I don’t suppose you’d like some help in there.  You know lathering up and making sure everything is squeaky clean?” I asked trying to appear as the picture of innocence and failing miserably at it.  “I thought you’d never ask.” He growled at me from deep in his throat and slid a kiss down my throat in response. It sent shivers through out my body and I couldn’t wait for the fun to begin.

“Let’s go then stud.” I purred at him and leapt up eagerly.  “First one there is in charge of the soap.”  And with that I led him on a merry chase to the bathroom.  Clothes were abandoned in a fever pitch of excitement with a good many caresses and kisses exchanged as we did so. After turning the water on we engaged in some more pre shower time foreplay. Liam cupped my mound and caressed the downy soft fur that covered it.  His finger slipped between my folds and he began to tickle my little man in the boat.  What he didn’t know about pleasing a woman I’m sure wasn’t worth knowing anyways. I mewled softly from his playful touch and was yearning for more.  He happily obliged me by also inserting a lone finger into my tight little slit and probing me as he continued to massage the captain of my boat who was now saluting him and engorged to twice the size he had been. I was busily working on getting my own salute from Liam as I stroked the beast of flesh between his thighs. I was determined to tame it and have it submit to me, and I was pretty confident that Liam would allow me that privilege. Liam slipped the sliding door to the shower open with his elbow as he was in no rush to engage his hands elsewhere for the time being, and I was truly happy with his decision.  He carefully backed me in the shower guiding me so that I’d not stumble.  He was always so protective of me no matter what we were doing.  I loved him for it.

My juices were flowing as fast and as freely as the water that tumbled down upon the two of us. My legs were stretched tautly as I reached up to make it easier for him to kiss me.  His free hand roamed over the swells of my buttocks.  It ran over my tummy and upwards so that it could cup the bronzed flesh of my breasts and tease my nipples.  In the steamy shower I could well imagine the two of us in some tropical destination making love under a waterfall as the air steamed around us from the heat.  No matter where we made love it could always transport us to anywhere our hearts desired.  One day in the future I was certain we would live out the image that had just flitted through my mind.  I was squirming and writhing with pure unadulterated passion in his magic hands.  I desperately needed and wanted to please him and I sank to my knees.  At first he must have thought my knees had become too weak to fully support me as he began to sink down with me.  Then realizing what I needed and wanted he lovingly used his hands to shield my face from the downpour of water.

I inhaled my own scent that lingered on his fingers and it was a powerful aphrodisiac for me as I engulfed his swollen member in my warm willing mouth. Liam groaned in pleasure as I worked my own magic on him, taking slow long deep thrusts of him so that he could feel the sponginess at the back of my throat.  His own natural mating dance took over as he would thrust his hips forward to greet my deep kisses of his most intimate flesh.  It was an erotic tableau to be certain and the voyeur in me wished that it was being captured so I could enjoy the moment with him again and again. I could taste his salty secretions leaking into my mouth and it just sent me into a furfur of delight.  His sack which I held in my hands gently squeezing and massaging was full to bursting and on the verge of doing that very thing.  I turned from him at that moment and walked my hands up the wall of the shower, bent over and inviting him to enter me and take what was rightfully his.

He massaged the cheeks of my bum before deftly parting them with his strong firm hands and teasing my swollen and highly sensitive little kitty with the tip of his engorged penis.  “Liam baby, please.” I begged him until he finally granted me my release and slid it into me deeply.  His swollen sack rested against my cheeks. I let out a contented sigh of fulfillment at finally having buried inside me.  I clenched the walls of my love muscle around him and my bottom wiggled against his full sack of seed.  That has the intended effect upon him that I desired and he began to plow furrow after furrow into me, gripping me firmly at the waist as he did so, to ensure I didn’t end up plunging my head into the wall. I cried out again and again as he drove into me, not caring how loud I had become.

Liam’s own guttural cries were equal to my own and we called out to one another caught up in our wild dance of lovemaking.  The fever pitched madness came in a swift torrent, as that final deep thrust send him over the edge and I could feel his sticky seed spreading its warmth deep within me. It triggered my own climax knowing he was sated. I gave myself over to the pleasure of it all, and together we rode through it.  When it was over he tenderly helped right me once more and his grateful kisses for the experience rained over me. “Oh how I love you.” He murmured to me over and over.

Part 27

My parents were up from their afternoon naps when we returned from our walk.  Mom was out in the kitchen with Barclay, who was busily lapping up a bowl of what wouldn’t surprise me if it was 35% whipping cream and if I dared try to question her about it, I’d get a blank look and a “But he likes it dear, and isn’t my right to spoil him a little now and again?”    “Sometimes it’s best to pick and choose your battles in life.” I mumbled to myself.  Liam just looked at me and I knew he understood.“Did you two have a nice walk?” My Mom inquired, as she wiped her hands on a tea towel. “Yes it was great thanks.  It was great to see where Lorelei had grown up, and there was the added bonus of getting some exercise and working off that fantastic lunch we had earlier.” Liam answered her. My mother beamed at the compliment to her cooking.  The next thing Liam knew though he’d been ushered over to a seat at the kitchen table and was being served “a little something to tide you over until dinner,” as my mother put it to him.  Leaving him a bit bewildered as to how quickly my Mom had taken charge of things.

I grabbed myself a glass out of the cupboard and poured a glass of ice tea out of the pitcher in the fridge, before I joined Liam and took a seat at the table.  Barclay having finished his snack, rubbed against my mother’s ankles purring like a maniac before getting a scratch under the chin from my mother, and prancing off to the living room to reclaim his throne and have a nap. “If you think you got bamboozled into a snack wait until she starts in on the wedding.  Your Mum is a piece of cake next to Annaliesa Gallagher.” I whispered hotly.Right on cue my Mom sat down at across the table from me and started in.  “So why don’t we start discussing the wedding plans before everyone else arrives?  I’ve got some wonderful ideas about colour schemes, floral arrangements, venues etc.”  I just rolled my eyes in desperation and Liam started to choke and sputter “Criminy crickets” I thought as Lorelei passed me a glass of water, and patted me on the back.  I thought my Mum was blunt and a take control kind of a gal, but Lor is right this woman really does take the cake.

“Mom” Lorelei began quickly switching into high gear to head her mother off at the pass. “We may as well get this straight right from the get go, this wedding is going to be about Liam and I, and we’ll be calling the shots.  We love you and Daddy, and we love Liam’s folks as well, but they’ve already been told politely but firmly we’ll be doing this our way.  Yes, we more than likely will ask your advice on some things but ultimately this is a celebration about our love and how we are going to choose to honour and express that.”  Her mother was not about to be dissuaded easily though and plowed ahead. “But dear I’ll have nightmares if you any of the dream weddings you planned for yourself growing up. Let’s see you wanted among other themes a Goth wedding, a Steam Punk one, a Halloween themed one where the guests” and this point her mother shuddered visibly “wore costumes to it.  Oh and for the worst of them all was the jean cut-offs, bare feet and tie dyed tee shirts on the beach, some hippie dippie peace and love thing!” Her mother finished obviously not impressed with her youngest child’s ideas on wedding themes.  Personally they sounded like a lot of fun and ones that would be relaxed, memorable not to mention loads of good fun.  They sure sounded like they’d beat any of the weddings I’d attended over the years hands down.

“Sweetheart why can’t you just do what everybody else would do and have a nice normal wedding?” She implored her daughter. “Mother, have you actually met me?  I don’t do normal and conventional. Taffeta dresses with horrid massive bows on the backs of them and all the formalities that go with them simply aren’t me and I don’t believe that’s for Liam either, but if it is, then we’ll find a happy medium that we can both live with and be happy about.  Mom I hate to break it to you but this is about Liam and I, not you.”  Lorelei’s voice cracked slightly on the last few words.  I knew she didn’t really relish conflict but this was one time in her life she was going to stick to her guns and hold firm. My mother cast her eyes on me, willing me to weigh in on the conversation and hopefully prove that I was the sensible one in this relationship and would side with her.  “Mrs. Gallagher.” I began after a moment of reflective thought.  “With all due respect I can and do clean up rather well for formal occasions, but they honestly aren’t my favourite thing.  I also think Lorelei has had some pretty creative and fun ideas for wedding themes while she was growing up. Over the years, I’ve never given wedding planning all that much thought as well I guess for one thing we guys don’t tend to do that.”

“You can’t seriously be thinking about letting her carry out one of these harebrained schemes of hers of hers can you?” her mother questioned me. “Oh I most certainly can and not only that I am. I will aid and abet her in any way, shape or form that I can to ensure that all of her dreams come true.  Please don’t push your ideals on her or on me.  Remember what it’s like to want to start your life with the person you love, and your need to do it in your own way.  If you can do that it will be the best gift you can ever give Lorelei and I.” I told her in as firm but kind manner as I could muster. None of us had noticed that Lorelei’s Dad had been silently listening to the conversation, until he advanced and placed his hand on my shoulder.  “I think I can actually learn to more than just tolerate you.  You genuinely want to make my little girl happy at all costs.  Even if that means standing up to my Mrs. And there aren’t many that would do that.  You’re either a dear brave lad or an utter fool.” He said as he slapped his hand against my shoulder.  “I can respect a man that has some backbone and isn’t afraid to stand up for himself, as well as the fact you’ll do it so readily for my daughter.  You’re all right in my books Liam.”

Lorelei looked rather stunned at her father’s change of heart about me.  “Thank you Daddy.” And she got up and gave her Dad a warm hug. “Oh we all knew I’d come around about him sooner or later.  I just had to see for myself that he was genuine and not some city slicker trying to pull the wool over the eyes of a country bumpkin like myself.  You love my daughter, respect her and will do anything to protect her and ensure her happiness, and that’s all that I can ask of you.” He said finishing his little speech. “Now what say you and I fire up the grill and get ready for the locusts that are about to descend any time soon?  We’ll grab a drink and do that whole male bonding, get to know you better thing, and leave the ladies to their own devices” This rapid fire turn of events I think threw both Lorelei and I for a bit of a loop, but we were both tickled by it none the less.  Her mother was still a bit of a loose cannon though, and I was a bit reluctant to go and join her father on the deck for as he put it male bonding time with me.

Lorelei reached up and gave me a kiss on the cheek.  “It’ll be okay, Mom is used to me speaking my mind though she’s not as used to other people putting in there two cents worth and telling her to back off.  You’ll see, I’ll sort it out with her.” She whispered in my ear. I gave her a peck on the temple, and gave her a gentle squeeze in return.  “You sure you’ll be okay?” I asked her quietly.  She nodded affirmatively. So I was off with her Dad, drink in hand, to discuss the merits of various marinades for steak vs chicken, along with who was going to be the most likely candidates to take the World Series this year, what kind of mileage my car got and a slew of other topics.  All in all he wasn’t such a bad guy, and like Lorelei, I was quickly learning his bark was worse than his bite. I also think I kind of understood him better on some levels if I allowed my mind to fast forward into the future.  I’d probably play hard ball with the guy any daughter of mine brought home to her mother and I as well.  You’d want to suss him out and make sure he was worthy of your little girl.

We were actually having a pretty good time together the two of us, when Lorelei and her mother joined us outside on the deck.  He’d even invited me back to do some fishing for pickerel and perch, so as I’d like to say I was in like flint with her Dad.  We were both much more visibly relaxed with each other now, but maybe that was in part due to the now emptied glasses of scotch on the table. It certainly hadn’t hurt my case any to have a drink with him. Lorelei leaned down and slipped her arms around me from behind to give me an affectionate hug.  “Everything still okay with you two?” She asked me lightly, as she planted a quick kiss on my cheek. “Yes indeed.” I replied as I slipped my hand over hers and rubbed them gently.  “How’s it going with you and your Mom?” “It’s all good.” She responded.  “Yes, it’s all good.” Her mother echoed. “We’ve mutually decided it’ll be for the best to let you two do your own thing when it comes to how you want the wedding to be.”   I grinned at that news.  Now we can, finally just both relax and enjoy this visit I thought to myself.

We heard a few car doors shutting and soon there was a steady stream of people arriving.  Introductions were made, hands were shaken, and people bustled about, setting up extra lawn chairs they’d brought with them.  Lorelei and her Mom began to ferry out various appetizers and snacks to tide people over until her Dad started grilling the main course. I know Lorelei had mentioned that she was the youngest and her brothers were a fair bit older than her but I’d had no real idea about what the age gap had been until now. I was guessing there was a good decade or more between them, and based on the ages of her nieces and nephews who were much older than mine were, it gave some validity to my theory. They were all quite clearly fond of their spirited Aunt Lorelei and had me in stitches as they shared some of their favourite memories of things they’d done with her over the years.  Lorelei just took it all in stride and laughed good naturedly over them as well. Things escalated when someone prompted their grandmother to dig out some old family photo albums so not only would I have the stories in my head but some concrete images as well to back them up.

I couldn’t help but smile as I thumbed through the pages of the albums.  A cute pink cheeked, chubby baby smiling at the world with those blue eyes of hers, curious about what life held in store for her.  A demure looking little girl in a frilly pink and white dress in one shot stared back at me and in the next she stood proudly displaying a catch of fish, wearing a pair of jeans and a t shirt.  One photo I particularly liked was of her dressed as a blushing bride in a picture taken for Halloween.  I did a double take at the woman in the photo with her.  I squinted at it to make sure I was right, but she beat me to the punch.  “Yep, that’s Daddy he went trick or treating with me and went as the Mother of the bride.”  I laughed until my sides ached over that one. There were other photos of her as well in Brownie and Girl Guide uniforms, horseback riding, as a teenager looking quite cute in a red and white baseball uniform with Nighthawks emblazoned across it, and her cap cocked jauntily to one side.  There were pictures of her as well as a junior bridesmaid at her brother’s weddings. “Are those sneakers peeping out from under that long dress?”  “You bet they are” piped up her oldest brother “and did Mom ever freak out on her when she found out.” Lorelei merely shrugged her shoulders, “Hey what can I say in my own defense, they were more comfortable than those stupid high heels Mom had picked out for me.”

There were pictures of her cradling one of her nieces or nephews at christenings clearly comfortable with having a wee one on in her arms even then.  I flipped through the pictures watching her transform from the cute and sometimes awkward looking kid she’d been to the beautiful and confident woman she had become.  There were changes in her hair colour, hair styles and of course the style of clothing, but there was always that same energy captured in the photos that was uniquely her.  I hadn’t realized how engrossed I’d become strolling down memory lane and stealing glimpses into her past, when I realized that dinner was about to be served. I put the albums aside until a later time when I was determined to share some of more of the moments from her life that I had missed out on.  Dinner was laid out smorgasbord style and it was quite the spread I must say.  , Barbequed steaks and chicken, pasta salad, potato salad, cold slaw, Caesar salad, deviled eggs, various pickles, rolls and butter, crowded the table top.  I joined the throng along with Lorelei ahead of me, and grabbed a plate and some utensils, and made my way down the row of food.  I would definitely never go hungry hanging out here with these people.

Dinner was excellent and I kind of wished I’d paced myself better and had saved more room for dessert.  There was apple pie, pecan pie, rhubarb pie, various cookies and squares as well as three kinds of ice cream for those that wanted it. I needless to say was in heaven, and so would it appear was the rest of the family.   Lorelei and her Mom may have had their differences but being excellent cooks and knowing how to feed people wasn’t one of them. There had been a good deal of chatter and laughter as we ate and I think it gave both Lorelei’s family and myself a better understanding of each other.  It had turned out to be a pretty pleasant meet and greet session with her family.  The kids drifted off first as some had dates and parties they were planning on attending, a couple were off to part time summer jobs.  Despite wanting to get on with their own weekends I couldn’t help but notice they all made sure they said good bye to Lorelei and hugged her good bye. “Make sure you don’t strip Muffins’ gears” she reminded her youngest nephew. “I won’t.” He grinned at her and he flashed his aunt a thumbs up before giving her a quick hug and taking off.

“Is that code between you two for something?” I asked mildly curious if there was some hidden meaning to the warning she’d given him.  She started laughing “No Muffin is my old jeep and the last time I was home he still hadn’t quite mastered the art of driving a stick shift is all.”  “You named a vehicle Muffin?” and grinned at her.  She did the hands up gesture “What else would you expect from a baker?” and she laughed one of those tinkling infectious laughs of hers. After the kids left and the few remaining leftovers had been put away, the remaining adults sat around talking.  Her brothers were quick to point out what a character she had been growing up and what a character she remained to this day.  I think it was their own way of trying to warn me she wasn’t exactly a slave to convention. Eventually the evening wore down, and the rest of her family took their leave.  Her parents were wiped out after all the day’s activities and soon toddled off to bed leaving us to our own devices.

“So what should we do now?” I asked her as we snuggled up together on the couch in the family room in the basement.  We’d chosen to go down there so that we wouldn’t keep her parents awake with whatever we decided to do until we went to bed ourselves. “I know what I’d like to do.” She grinned at me mischievously, “but that would not go down well at all with my folks.” She giggled.  “We can shoot a couple of games of pool, or pick out a board game to play, or pop a movie into watch.  Any of those appeal to you?” she asked me. “Not nearly as much as you’re original idea, which I can pretty much guess what it was.” Liam answered me rakishly wiggling his eyebrows at me and nuzzling the nape of my neck.  As always his kisses managed to arouse certain primal urges with in me, and I was dangerously close to giving in to them. “Pool it is then.” I decided quickly before things somehow got out of hand between us.  “I thought you’d opt to break out the Parcheesi board.” He teased me, obviously remembering an earlier comment I’d made about what my father would not assume we did with our evenings.

We uncovered the pool table and I set about racking up the balls while he selected a cue, and chalked it.  I on the other hand went and retrieved a small case which when I laid it on the table and opened it revealed a custom made cue which I began to assemble.  “You’ve got your own cue?” he asked more amused than anything by this discovery.  “Doesn’t everyone?” I teased him back.  I snapped the clasps on the case shut and moved it out of the way.  “Best 3 out of five is declared the champion?”  “Sounds fair to me.” He answered back.  I lost the lag for the break, so Liam took the first shot and managed to sink a couple of stripes.  He ended up winning the first game, but I managed to trounce him in the next two games.  We bantered back and forth as we played, teasing each other with good natured competitiveness.  It wasn’t what either of us really wanted to be doing but we’d both decided to make the best of our current situation and lack of some serious alone time.  In the fourth game I tied things up, and we mutually decided at that point to declare it a tie and try to get some sleep.

We clung together, after saying our good nights and exchanging kisses that would have to last us until the morning.  Liam declined my offer of walking him to his room, he assured me he’d be fine as my Mom had left the light on in the guest room so he wouldn’t have to fumble around in the dark. A final kiss, and reluctantly we broke apart and went our separate ways.  I could hear the soft tread of his footsteps over head as the guest room was just above my own. As I got ready for bed, I good well imagine him stripping down, and the mere thought of it quickened my pulse.  I’d packed him a t shirt and some comfortable shorts to wear as pyjamas, to guard against any potentially embarrassing scenes between him and my parents.  As I listened to the faint sounds from above me I changed into a similar garb myself. Pulling back the covers I slipped into bed, and flopped back against the pillows.  It was frustrating knowing he was so close and yet so far away from me.  I couldn’t sleep and tossed and turned, finding that even snuggling my pillow and willing it to be him offered me no comfort tonight.

Finally I gave up any pretense of sleep, and stole out from under the covers and slipped up the stairs, padded through the kitchen and out on to the deck.  It was a beautiful night.  The moon was especially luminous this evening, and the stars twinkled brightly.  “Oh if only I were able to share this with Liam” I thought to myself, as I sighed and leaned against the railing.I heard the soft click of the door as it opened, and I didn’t bother to turn around as I figured it was my mother, who had always had ears like a cat when we were kids and seemed to instinctively know when one of us was out of our bed late at night.  One of those mom superpowers, and I smiled wondering if I too would one day inherit those superpowers. Strong arms encircled my waist and pressed me against him.  “I couldn’t sleep either. It just doesn’t feel right not having you next to me.  I miss the scent that lingers in your hair, the smooth silky warmth of your skin next to mine, the way you make those soft contented little sounds as you snuggle into me and drift off to sleep.” He intoned softly in my ear and followed by a flurry of feathery kisses on my shoulders and throat.

I let out a frustrated little mewl of understanding. “I came out here for the same reason, thinking maybe some fresh night air would make me drowsy and help me finally succumb to sleep. It didn’t though, I ended up just thinking about you even more and how wonderful it would be to share this night with you.” I said as I turned to face him and slid my hands slowly up his chest until my hands were cupping his face.  He lowered his head so that my pursed and waiting lips could join his own. Before I knew it I had his hand in mine and was tugging on it, silently urging him to follow me.  We slipped as fleet footedly as a pair of cats down the steps and off of the deck.  The dew covered grass was cool on our bare feet and our footprints left shimmering imprints in the moonlight as we lithely made our way across it.  Neither of us said a word, not wanting to risk our voices carrying into open windows in the still of the night. We headed into the woods, and Liam allowed me to lead the way, knowing full well how I had travelled them many times over the years and knew them as well as I knew the back of my own hand. I led him to a secluded little spot not far from the edge of the water.  The small pond was glimmering in the moonlight, giving it the appearance of a large mirror.  Fireflies flitted about amongst the trees, crickets chirped and night owls hooted into the darkness.

“Are you kidnapping me?” Liam inquired as he grinned at me. “Would you like it if I were?” as I smiled back with what I hoped was a captivating come hither look into his eyes.  “Most indubitably.” He responded.  I laughed at his answer but added quite seriously.  “That’s just one more reason why I love you so much, you are the only person in the world that I know that would answer with a word like indubitably.”  “You didn’t date many English majors over the years have you?” He teased me, which only earned him a playful poke in the ribs with my finger, and being smothered with kisses. As we embraced we sank to our knees in slow almost rehearsed unison.  Neither of us gave a thought to the moist earthy ground beneath us.  Liam slipped his hands under my t shirt and began to caress my breasts which were already beginning to heave slightly with the anticipation of the things that were to come.  My own hands worked feverishly to remove his t shirt and expose him to the night air.  Not surprisingly I also found myself void of my t shirt as well.

A light summer breeze brushed against my flesh and my nipples stiffened in response.  Liam not one to overlook the gift of nature arousing me took matters into his own hands and coaxed them to harden even more as he rubbed them between his thumbs and forefingers.  I moaned my approval and it only caused him to try to arouse me even further.  Tweaking and pinching my hardened nubs until they ached with desire.  I could feel the flow of liquid love beginning to run between my thighs.I slipped my hand down the front of his shorts and clasped his already hard member as his tongue which had been dueling with my own beat a hasty retreat and began to work its way down my body until he was in such a position that he could catch my throbbing tender buds in his mouth.  Lost in the sensations I could feel myself on the brink of an explosive orgasm.

It was evident that I was succeeding in arousing him as well for I could feel the drops of pre cum leaking from his sensitive tip onto my hand.  He let out a groan as he leaned me back and in one swift motion removed my shorts.  I had no doubts in my mind as to what he had in mind for me next.   He used his hands to part my thighs, his gaze fixated first on my face, then dropping to the mound between my legs which was covered with a dew all of its own.  Rubbing his stubble covered cheeks lightly over my inner thighs before he set about devouring his favourite late night snack. My hands were balled into small fists which I hammered against the ground feeling as wild and free as any animal that was out roaming the night.  Liam brought me to new heights of exploring and enjoying my femininity and sexuality.  He was expertly stoking and exploring my inner most realms using both his talented tongue and equally talented fingers.  His fingers internally caressed my love tunnel while his lips were pressed against my little pink rosebud coaxing it to blossom, as his tongue flicked over it rapidly.

I writhed beneath him, my hips bucking forward to meet his tongue and thrusts from his fingers.  I squealed and groaned with that intense satisfaction that only he could provide me.  No longer could I fight the feeling and I surrendered to him totally.  I was his, heart, body and soul.  He was the master and I was his domain to claim as he saw fit. Always ready for adventure, but always so quick to ensure my pleasure he eased me through the throes of my climax.  Only then would be even consider, planting his flag pole in my mound of Venus.  He was more than ready for the challenge as he slipped his shorts over his tight firm buttocks and past his knees. It was a magical wand of flesh to me as it waved over me. I wanted it all to touch it, to taste it to feel it deep inside of me.  Being a gentleman he was always happy to oblige me with my desires.

He straddled me and lowered himself over my open mouth, which was willing waiting to welcome him.  He teased me by rubbing his glossy headed tip over my lips, only serving to drive me into a wild frenzy.  I clutched his hips and drew him down, determined to pleasure him with my own oral skills It really didn’t take long for me to feel that familiar launch cycle beginning to activate with in him.  He withdrew from me though, and I pouted petulantly at being denied my favourite oral toy.  “It’s okay my love there will be plenty of other times for that.” He promised me as he prepared to enter me. I wasn’t the least bit disappointed as I felt him slip between my slippery folds, and begin to slowly stretch out my canal.  Liam consumed me with his strength and his passion and we were swept up in the primal dance we were joined in. Our climaxes came quicker than either of us planned and perhaps it was only because we had been denied our earlier desires to couple and now we were bound and determined to ensure the opportunity was not lost.

Sometimes I think neither of us was quite certain as to what meant more to us the physical act of making love or the glorious aftermath of it all, being able  to know the all empowering feeling of having been loved so wisely and so well and to be able to revel in it. We hurriedly dressed and spend back towards the house, on the off chance her parents had awakened and decided to check on us.  We breathed a sigh of relief to discover the house in quite stillness.  Only Barclay was up and moving about at that hour. On the way back we’d decided trying to sleep apart was futile so we came up with something that surely would not offend my parents.  We took places on the sofa in the living room, Liam half reclined, feet on the floor just like out of some old black and white movie, to ensure the heroines virtue would remain intact. I snuggled up under the crook of his arm as though we were watching a movie together, all perfectly innocent looking to the casual observer.  A long lingering good night kiss, and finally we drifted off together, comforted by the fact we were together once more.

Part 26

Saturday morning I awoke still snuggled in Liam’s arms, as beams of sunlight danced across the room in an early morning welcome.  It took me a minute or two to transition from sleep laden eyes to ones that would view the day with the endless possibilities that it possessed. Sleep was quickly banished from my eyes when Liam’s face came into focus for me. His eyes still pressed closely together, fine creases etched around them, the firm line of his jaw, and lips that crinkled in a perpetual smile even when he slumbered.  He was truly handsome and yet I sincerely doubted that he was aware of just how handsome and distinguished looking he was.  With what I hoped was a barely imperceptible touch, so as not to awaken him, I ran my fingertip over his well chiseled features.  As I did, I marvelled at just how well they truly were a reflection of the man and his inner character.  I would always believe in and value him for noble character.

I wasn’t the only one observing Liam as he dozed.  Barclay sat perched as still as a statue on the nightstand beside Liam’s side of the bed, staring at him, with wide alert eyes, willing him to wake up so we could get the show on the road. He seemed anxious about getting to my parents place.  Barclay was like a small child who intuitively knows who they can wrap around their little finger, or in his case little paw, and was anticipating exploiting that fact to his full advantage. I’d never been able to sort it out but he had this knack of knowing when he was being taken on a trip to my parents place, but he did.  I jokingly referred to my parents as Barclays’ “Grandmeow” and “Grandpaw.”, the reason being years of my Mother’s constant badgering about when was I going to settle down and give her some more grandchildren.  It had always been a bit of a sore spot between the two of us, as I had no intentions of getting married and raising a family solely to make her happy.

I’d always stubbornly maintained I would marry solely for love, not for the sake of ensuring I didn’t spend the rest of my life alone.  I’d always wanted it all, the hearts and flowers type of romance with the man I could unleash my inner most passions with, and be delightfully silly with as well.  The man for me would also have to be highly intelligent as well as possessing a good deal of common sense and street smarts.  A rapier well, honed wit would be essential to the man of my dreams as well.  Confidence would also be essential to the mix but never arrogance and there was a definite distinction between the two, one was incredibly attractive but the latter one was a deal breaking turn off to me.  He’s have to accept me as I was, faults and all, realizing I could be a head strong, force to be reckoned with at times and at still others expose my vulnerabilities to him and know it was completely safe for me to be able to do that with him.  I had somehow though miraculously discovered that man in the form of Liam, who embodied all of those traits and even more, some of which I’d never even realized before that I had been seeking. “Take that Mom, you really can have it all.” I thought triumphantly.

My Mother would call me an idealist, a hopeless romantic, and I believe thought me an utter fool for thinking that way.  It didn’t bother me though for I knew in my heart of hearts I would never be happy with myself if I merely settled for anything less than what I wanted.  Don’t get me wrong I didn’t want perfection, just the man that would be perfectly suited to me, and I didn’t think that was too much to ask out of life.  Mom however felt if he wore pants, could grow facial hair and had the potential to procreate he’d be an ideal candidate for me.  We clearly disagreed on the issue and often had squared off on it over the years. Thankfully Liam also managed to meet not only my criteria, which at the end of the day was all that mattered to me, but he definitely met my Mom’s as well.  He filled out a pair of pants rather well, and I often appreciated the way his jeans showed off his cute bottom.  The early morning stubble on his handsome face left no doubt as to his ability to grow facial hair.  Best of all he was an amazing and giving lover, so I knew her final criteria wasn’t an issue either.  Liam was in fact perfect for me.

In an effort to placate her, or maybe I was just being a bit of a smartie pants when I took Barclay in I informed her that I had indeed making her a Grandmother once more. She had a complete conniption when she at first mistakenly believed I was about to become an unwed mother, then realized I had taken in an abandoned kitten.  Annoying each other just seemed to be a part of our mother/daughter dynamic. Liam must have sensed the eyes that were boring holes into the back of his head compliments of Barclay, for he awoke with a start, then smiled in that easy relaxed manner of his when he saw me smiling up at him.  “Good morning, beautiful.” And he graced me with a brush of his lips against mine that warmed me through and through. Barclay took the opportunity to leap from the nightstand on to the pillow.  He then proceeded to go nose to nose with Liam.  He gave him a look that left no doubt he was clearly saying “Well finally you’re up.  It’s about bloody time, now let’s get with the program and get a move on mister.”

“Good morning to you, too buddy.” He said giving Barclay a scratch behind his ears, which momentarily placated Barclay, who then proceeded to curl up on the end of the bed keeping an ever vigilant eye on the two of us. Talk about having a chaperone, both sets of our parents could have learned a thing or two from Barclay. “Well I guess this curtails any plans I might have for romance with you at the moment.” Liam sighed.“We’ll always have the shower sweetheart.” I said giving him my best Bogart impersonation, which only led us to a fit of the giggles.“So seriously though, what’s the game plan for the day? He asked as he snuggled in closer to me.“Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I could consider that a loaded question you know.” As I sighed heavily and gave his chest a kiss as I cuddled him closer.“Oh Lorelei, your family can’t be that bad can they?” he asked as he stroked my arm comfortingly.  “All families have their share of nuts and dysfunction, even mine I swear.  Cross my heart and hope to die.”

“You forgot the part about ‘stick a needle in my eye.’” I moaned.  “Oh realistically I know they aren’t horrible but I’m just so different then they are.  I spent a life time of having them trying to get me to conform to their ideals and it’s simply not me.   “When I graduated from high school they thought I should either stay home, marry a nice local boy, and start a family, maybe have a nice little part time job doing secretarial work or clerking in one of the banks.  Or if I really insisted on higher education and spreading my wings then going to school in London at Western or Fanshawe would be deemed acceptable behaviour.” “I had other dreams and dug my heels in, applied to schools here in Toronto and some even further abroad. I decided on attending one here and I’ve never looked back.  It hasn’t always been easy but it’s been a rewarding experience.  It’s taught me a lot of lessons about life.  I’ve gained a great deal by marching to my own drum and being my own person, but it’s come with its costs as well.  I have no regrets though about how I’ve chosen to live my life.”  I finished up.

“Well I kind of put two and two together the other day when we spoke to your Mom and she started the conversation with let me think for a second……..oh yeah, I remember now the whole ‘den of iniquity’ thing.  It was a pretty big give a way that she’s not always thrilled with your choices.” I started laughing.  “Well spotted, sweetheart.  Don’t get me wrong I love my parents, but there life just wasn’t for me.  I wanted new experiences, I wanted to broaden my horizons, have adventures, I want to live life to its fullest. Basically I just want to be me and the best me I can be.”
“You’re not alone on that Lor.  I believe life is for living and celebrating as well, and sometimes that means pushing yourself out side of your comfort zones and taking your best shot at something, even if it means everyone else around you thinks you’ve lost your mind.” He kissed my forehead.  “We are two peas in a pod, much to our parents’ utter chagrin, and you and I are the children most likely to turn that pod into a sailing vessel and sail off into the sunset, protocol be damned.” “You little devil you, no wonder I love you so much.” I said smiling at him before embracing him for a very warm and heated embrace that left no doubt as to the deep attraction and affections we had for one another. Eventually we did managed to drag ourselves out of bed, and get moving, but it was difficult as we both enjoyed our bedroom activities immensely.  The more we made love, the closer we grew together and the more energy and enthusiasm we had for life and making every precious moment count.

Liam lingered in the bedroom to change the bed linens and make up the bed, while I meandered into the kitchen to feed Barclay, start the coffee and sort something out for breakfast.  While it was true that neither of us was working out the same way we had been before we became a couple, we still managed to keep busy and build up some pretty healthy appetites. I was busy whipping up breakfast, and Barclay was noisily devouring his morning kibble, when Liam joined us in the kitchen.  “It always smells so amazing in here since you moved in.” He said appreciatively.  “Shall I pour you some coffee?”  “Yes please that would be great thanks. I’ll be finished here in a couple more minutes.” He got to mugs out of the cupboard and poured two steaming cups and brought one over and handed it to me.  Along with the coffee he also delivered some very steamy kisses that left me grinning from ear to ear.

While I finished breakfast and plating it up for the two of us, Liam had quietly slipped out of the room.  He returned a short while later, with a little nosegay for me that he’d picked out in the garden and I suspected had included wheedling a few of them out of his next door neighbour, who no doubt would be out tending her flower beds. “My dear these are for you.” He said bowing with a flourish as he presented them to me. “Just a little something to show you I do appreciate all your efforts and the way you take such good care of me.” “Thank you, their lovely.” I said as I accepted the little bouquet and buried my nose in it to inhale their delicate scents. “It’s nothing much really.” He said almost bashfully.  “It is too. Well at least it is to me.” I contradicted him. Little things like this have always made a huge impact on me.  Unexpected heartfelt gestures are always the best and most sincere I find.”

This was just one more reason why I loved her so dearly.  Simple things meant so much to her, and I could tell from the way her face beamed that she truly was happy with my small gift.  I watched her as she hummed happily, and took a juice glass out of the cupboard, filled it with water and arranged the blossoms I’d brought her in it. She placed it on the centre of the kitchen table and I could tell that in her eyes she viewed it as the most beautiful floral center piece she had ever seen. “Have a seat, breakfast will be right up.” She chirped and scurried to plate up breakfast while it was still hot.  Before I knew it I had a really delicious looking plate of French toast, topped with some luscious looking apple combination, fresh sliced strawberries on the side and a glass of orange juice to round it all out on top of the mug of coffee I was still sipping on.

“I can get you some maple syrup if you want as well.”  She informed me as she took her seat. “Nope totally not necessary, this apple topping is delicious, it tastes almost exactly like apple pie but without the crust, and it’s all warm and spiced just right with cinnamon and whatever else you’ve got in it.” I told her as I smacked my lips. “You’re pretty close it’s called apple pie jam, I found the recipe a few years ago and it’s become a huge hit with my friends and family.” “I can totally see why.” I mumbled between bites of my delicious breakfast.  When we were through I patted my rather full belly and sighed contentedly.  “You are amazing.  Thanks again for yet another great meal.” I thanked her as I leaned forward and kissed her. “It’s my pleasure.” She responded.

The two of us tidied up the kitchen, and watered the plants in the kitchen window sill and around the rest of the house, and our little home once again looked picture perfect. “You know coffee isn’t the only thing that’s good the last drop.” She purred into my ear when we’d finished cleaning up.  I immediately knew what she had in mind and knowing I had a weekend of family imposed celibacy looming before me I wasn’t about to turn down the opportunity for some lovingly erotic playtime with her. Once again shower time turned into a romantic, sensual encounter that left both of us with a certain radiant glow and dreamy smiles on our faces. I couldn’t help but gaze at her and drink her in as we both got dressed.  Silently I crossed the room, and slipped my arms around her. “You really are beautiful” I whispered in her ear and softly nuzzled the swell of her shoulder.

“You’re not so bad yourself.” She replied as her hands slipped over mine, and she pressed herself back against me. We stood there just holding each other close basking in the moment, of being together. A loud “merowwwwwwww” and a quick glance at the alarm clock made us realize we’d better get moving.  Lorelei set about gathering last minute toiletries and tossing them in our suitcase, while I went and got Barclays’s kitty carrier ready for him. I stowed the luggage in the truck of the car, and came in to see if she needed help coaxing Barclay into his carrier.  He stepped in quickly with a swish of his tail, turned around a couple of times and settled himself into a comfortable little ball. “I wish it was always this easy to get him into his carrier, but when he knows he’s off to the vets for his shots he’s an absolute little horror.” She mused as she secured the door to the carrier.  She grabbed her purse, I grabbed the carrier and we were ready to get us all settled into the car and head off.

Barclay settled down for a snooze before we’d even pulled out of the driveway. Lorelei and I were soon engaged in our favourite driving activity, listening to some great tunes, while we sang along to them and bopped along to the music in our seats.  I off course had to be less boppy about my seat dancing than she did as one I was driving and two, I could have knocked myself senseless as I didn’t have nearly the head clearance she did. It was a pleasant little domestic scene, and one I felt totally comfortable with, as we cruised along to pick up the Q. E. W., which we’d then cut off of to pick up the 401, it was pretty smooth sailing from there, until we finally took the cut off on our way to her home town. Lorelei had offered to drive as she knew exactly where we were going, but I figured she had enough on her mind with introducing me to her family, so I thanked her for the offer but had chosen to do the driving.

Happily we cruised along in the late summer sunshine.  Traffic was fairly light for our weekend commute and we hadn’t hit any accidents or construction so we were making good time on our journey.  Lorelei gave me fair warning when the exit we needed to take was coming up.  From there it was quite a scenic drive, filled with farm land, and sleepy little villages that if you blinked you’d have missed them entirely.  It was a nice change for a guy like me who had been born and raised in the big city. As we reached the town limits I dropped my speed and we cruised along.  “Holy doodle, was that a horse and buggy we just passed?” “Yep,” she replied totally non-pulsed by it but obviously amused at my reaction to it at the same time. “I think you may be in for a bit of a culture shock over the next 24 hours or so.” She giggled.

“We’ve got a fairly large order of Old Colony Amish Mennonites around here.  Lovely people but very conservative and old fashioned. The way they live is very simplistic and it’s like taking a step back in time and capturing it in still framed photography.  I will admit to being highly amused myself when they take their horses and buggies, through the drive through at McDonalds’ now that’s quite the sight.  “Now, that I’ve simply got to see.” I chuckled. “I’ll be sure to give you the grand tour while we’re here so I can show you that and a whole lot more.” A couple of stop lights, and a few turns later and we were pulling on to the street where Lorelei’s parents lived.  It was a nice feel to it with lawns that were well manicured.  Brightly coloured flower beds and accent pots on front porches and urns standing guard on either sides of garage doors.

Her parents place was a stylish red brick home on a corner lot that had a lovely back garden that seemed to go out into some sort of natural little wooded area, from what I could see of it as we pulled into it.  Her Mother was waiting for us at the door and came bustling out as I put the car in park. “Remember you love me for better or worse.” She whispered to me and clutched my hand. “I do love you, and that’s all that matters to me.” And I leaned over and gave her a quick kiss of reassurance. Her mother was prancing back and forth quite obviously anxious to make my acquaintance by the car door, and her father was now standing on the front porch with his arms crossed over his chest, eyeing me up with a look that seemed to say “So you’re the sex maniac that’s been mauling my little girl, and you can’t even keep your oversized paws off her in my  driveway.”

For a brief moment I felt like I was about 14 years old and should turn tail and run for it, but I knew that was absurd, and quickly made a speedy recovery of my senses.  I squared my shoulders and got out of the car.  Mrs. Gallagher hustled over to me immediately.  Evidently she was a rather tactile person and threw her arms around me and gave me a bear hug as she welcomed me to her home. Lorelei had slipped out of the car and was now standing by my elbow. Her mother released me from her vice like hug and turned her attentions on her daughter.  “Darling it’s so good to see you and your young man. Oh my, isn’t he a tall drink of water?” She mused.   “You two remind me of Mutt and Jeff when you’re side by side.  Now grab your luggage and come on into the house.  I’ve got lunch all already to go and I’ll have it on the table in just a jiff.  You two must be famished.” She burbled away excitedly, gave her daughter a hug and disappeared into the house.  It was going to be tough to get a word in edge wise with this woman I thought to myself.

Lorelei’s father however was going to be an entirely different kettle of fish then her mother was. He stood glaring with his fixed fishy eyes trained on me. I grabbed our suitcase out of the trunk, slammed it shut and resigned myself to making the best of things during our stay. Lorelei removed Barclay from the back seat of the car, and together we stood before her father.  He eyed the lone suitcase in my hand with undisguised contempt for me, as it was just further evidence to him that I was the sort of guy that wouldn’t even go through the pretense of packing a separate suitcase just to placate him.  I hated being judged like that, especially when I wasn’t even the one that had done the packing.  On another level though I sort of understood where he was coming from, with his attitude.  He was in fear that he was losing his little girl entirely to another man and that man was me, so therefore I was his sworn mortal enemy. I wondered if I should consider sleeping with one eye open tonight as her Dad more than likely had a pillow with my name on it that he’d cheerfully smother me with.

Her mother had reappeared at the door. “Come on get a hustle on.  Lorelei, bring Barclay in so Grandma can see her little precious.  Gerald, you help Liam with the luggage.” She directed in rapid fire succession. “They only have the one piece of luggage.” Her father snorted back at his wife.  “Well isn’t that practical to travel so light?” marvelled her mother. “Liam you just come in and take that to your room, it’s the one at the end of hall to the left of the living room.  I’ll give you a tour of the rest of the house after we have our lunch.” I paused on the front porch and stuck out my hand.  “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you sir.” He grudgingly stuck out his hand and gave me a quick but very firm shake and remained silent. “Daddy, behave.” The implied undertone being she’d not only have words with him but her mother as well if he didn’t. “Fine, nice to meet you……..Liam.” he added as if making an effort to appease his daughter and stave off a lecture from his wife.  Lorelei shot him a smile of thanks and we all entered the house.

“My Dad will come around, just be patient with him okay?” she whispered to me as she led me to the guest room I’d be staying in. “It’s all good.  I remember how it was for Colin when he arrived on the scene with Molly.  He’ll get to know me and see I’m not such a bad guy, and that I am very serious about my intentions with making a life with you.” I answered her. She smiled gratefully at me and reached up on her tippy toes, clasped me around the neck and pulled me down for a kiss.  Boy did she ever know how to give a guy a kiss. We could hear her mother cooing at Barclay, and telling him what a handsome boy he was and how she had a treat for him.  Lorelei’s father was pretending to read the newspaper and mumbling under his breath when we joined them in the living room.

Barclay was whisked away for his promised treat, and Lorelei’s father snapped his paper shut and tossed it on the coffee table.  “Your mother has lunch set up on the back deck.” He said as he stood and led us through the living room to the kitchen and out the French doors that opened out on to the upper deck of the patio. It was a beautiful view out there.  Beyond the flower beds there was indeed a natural wooded setting as I had early thought. It was filled with ferns, wild flowers and if you caught the view just right through the trees there was a small pond as well.  It was an ideal setting and one I hopped would have a calming effect on her dad.

There was a gentle breeze blowing as Lorelei’s mother came out with a pitcher of iced tea in her hands and joined the three of us.  “Anything I can do to help, Mrs. Gallagher?” I politely inquired of her mother.  “You’re quite the gentleman Liam, and thank you but I’m fine dear, just have a seat and sit down and enjoy your lunch.” I held out Lorelei’s chair for her and she slipped into it.  Lorelei’s mother beamed at me, glanced at her husband who was not about to let himself be outdone by this interloper in his home, and leapt to his feet and did the same for his wife. Lunch was excellent, as well as filling with Mrs. Gallagher urging me to have extra helpings of everything.  My undoing was dessert which was warm from the oven sweetened biscuits topped with sliced strawberries and slathered with freshly whipped cream.  Those were my undoing and I don’t think I could have eaten another thing when I finished my portions, even if you’d paid me to.  When we finally finished the meal, I thanked Lorelei’s mother profusely for the fantastic meal and her hospitality.  Then I got up and began to help Lorelei clear the table.

The conversation over lunch had gone fairly smoothly and I think by the end of it Mr. Gallagher had started to relax with me a bit and no longer considered me a complete moron.  I think I’d also gained a bit of respect from him, when he discovered I could be as hardnosed as he was about his daughter, and that I was not merely trifling with her affections.  He even went so far as to stop grumbling whenever I would lay my hand over hers, or she’d smile that sweet smile of hers at me during the meal. I believe he was coming to the realization that our affection for each other was indeed both mutual and genuine. At least I was making progress with the old boy accepting me and I considered that a step in the right direction. We decided to take a little walking tour of the town on our own after lunch, as both the senior Gallagher’s wanted to engage in catnaps, before the evening festivities with Lorelei’s siblings and other family members.  Barclay had already staked out his claim to the sofa after he’d filled his tummy with the boneless skinless chicken breast he’d had prepared for him. So he was quite content to be left to his own devices.

It was a nice day for a stroll as we set out hand in hand. She pointed out various things as we walked such as the schools she’d attended as a kid, the church where her folks had gotten married, where she’d taken her skating and swimming lessons and other points of interest. Despite the fact she’d not lived there for several years you could tell she was still well known and liked by the numerous people that stopped us to say hello and see how she was doing and how long she’d be in town.  People were warm and welcoming with me as well, shaking my hand and joking with me. On our way back to the house, we cut through a park that backed onto the woods behind the Gallagher’s back garden.  We picked up one of the walking trails, and enjoyed the cool shade offered by the overhanging trees after our walk in the summer heat.  I took deep breaths filling my lungs with the clean air filled with the scent of pine needles and wild flowers.  Birds chirped, chipmunks scampered across the path, squirrels chattered at us from the tree tops, and it was a perfect place to be alone with Lorelei, and just enjoy each other’s company.

She slipped her arm around my waist as we walked and talked quietly together.  We both agreed things were going pretty well and that her father did in fact seem to be warming ever so slightly to the idea of having me around.  We also took advantage of the fact we were alone with no prying eyes upon us to indulge in some rather affectionate canoodling. As we returned to the house, her arm was wrapped around my waist hugging me close to her, and my arm was draped over her shoulder holding her just as close. We were refreshed from our time alone together and were more than ready to face whatever would happen next on this weekend with her family.
